The 35th Bienal de São Paulo – choreographies of the impossible is open until December 10, 2023. The exhibition curated by Diane Lima, Grada Kilomba, Hélio Menezes and Manuel Borja-Villel takes place at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, in the Ibirapuera Park, in the heart of São Paulo, Brazil. The admission is free.

choreographies of the impossible brings together a set of artistic practices and cultural and social movements that challenge the impossible in varied and incalculable ways. The 121 participants invite us to move through experiences that subvert the concept of a progressive, linear, and Western history.

In this last month of the exhibition, the public program will feature performances by Amador e Jr. Segurança Patrimonial Ltda., Davi Pontes & Wallace Ferreira, Ricardo Aleixo, The Living and the Dead Ensemble, Ventura Profana, and Will Rawls, artwork activations by Daniel Lie, Denilson Baniwa and Sauna Lésbica, a series of ballroom workshops and performances, panels with Denise Ferreira da Silva and guests.

Our educational program is very important and makes thousands of children get in touch with contemporary art, therefore a section called Movements in our website is dedicated to the texts in the educational publication and their unfoldings. You may also schedule a mediated visit through our channels.

The narrative of the exhibition unfolds in the architectural design, a proposal capable of making us feel in our bodies what the changes in flow and the interventions in the building produce. Theinversion of the floors, a strategy created by enveloping the central span, unleashes a sequence of movements that accelerate, delay, pause, and suggest different speeds, provoking distinct rhythms and counterpoints.

In case you can’t join us in São Paulo, check out the online content on the show. Full videos of our public program are available on our YouTube channel, as well as short videos on specific works. Our Instagram and TikTok accounts cover many works and participants with more in-depth information and different gazes. The exhibition website offers all of our publications online – such as the catalog and educational publications –, accessible audio guides, visiting information, texts and photos about the participants’ works, and more. Accessibility is a main concern within the exhibition, with new features such as an Easy Read page, image descriptions on alt text, and adaptations to the building.

Next year, the 35th Bienal lives on through the traveling exhibitions, reaching many cities inside Brazil and abroad with excerpts of the show in different art institutions.

Maybe it will reach some city near you!
