September 5 – November 1, 2020
The slow opening of the 11th Berlin Biennale began a year ago, and since then it has been exploring the many cracks we carry, the fissures that keep us apart and those that bring us together.
When the pandemic hit the world, we were sad to shut down the temporary space in Berlin-Wedding, where we took up residence at that time, and rejoiced when it was possible to reopen our doors. When we were confronted with the necessary postponement of the 11th Berlin Biennale—the forth and final part was initially scheduled from June 13 to September 13, 2020—we recalled the words gifted by one woman to another when facing other perils: “Ninguém solta a mão de ninguém“ [No one let go of anybody else].
Featuring participation from around the world, the epilogue exhibition is still on view until November 1, 2020. Under the title The Crack Begins Within it takes place at four locations throughout the city of Berlin—KW Institute for Contemporary Art, daadgalerie, Gropius Bau, and 11th Berlin Biennale c/o ExRotaprint.
For those who cannot visit, parts of our program are also documented and can be found on our website at 11.berlinbiennale.de/media.
