The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country-Artium Museoa presents two solo exhibitions

The Artium Museoa presents two solo exhibitions by Patricia Dauder and Ibon Aranberri and a documentary exhibition on Néstor Basterretxea.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country-Artium Museoa has recently presented its new exhibitions. These are two solo shows that look at the work of Patricia Dauder (Barcelona, 1973) and Ibon Aranberri (Itziar-Deba, Gipuzkoa, 1969). The exhibition programme is completed with an exhibition dedicated to the documentary legacy of Néstor Basterretxea (Bermeo, 1924-Hondarribia, 2014), which originates from the family’s donation of his personal archive to the museum.

The exhibition ‘Unform’, dedicated to the work of Patricia Dauder (Barcelona, 1973), brings together sculptures, drawings, installations and films that, as a whole, explore the artist’s interest in tracking affective moments that often leave almost unnoticeable traces. The exhibition also demonstrates her focus on the passage of time through the use of techniques such as accumulation and erasure. In this way, often using found objects, Dauder’s works evoke the potential stories enclosed in objects and spaces of which only tracks and traces remain. ‘Unform’ is curated by Catalina Lozano and can be visited until 29 September.

The Entresaka exhibition dedicated to Ibon Aranberri offers a captivating journey through the artist’s works spanning from the 1990s to today. Presented in collaboration with MNCARS, this exhibition builds upon the success of the initial ‘Vista Parcial’ showcase, now hosted at the Artium Museoa. At its core, ‘Entresaka’ showcases a series of Aranberri’s iconic pieces, reflecting his deep fascination with the processes of landscape formation and how it is shaped by human intervention. A nuanced exploration of references and gestures through sideways looks at the remnants and contours of something that resists easy definition, Aranberri’s art invites viewers to contemplate the ever-evolving landscape.

The exhibition has been coproduced with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, with the collaboration of Dinamoa Sormen Gunea and can be visited until 29 September. Finally, the core work of ‘Néstor Basterretxea. Archivo’ is the documentary collection of the artist, which was donated to the museum by his family in 2023. The show has been designed as an approach to this figure through his writings, photographs, letters, film projects, public works projects, pamphlets and articles, among others. The exhibition project recognises the importance of preserving the identity and integrity of each documentation item, while simultaneously seeking to activate its potential as a source of inspiration and knowledge. It can be visited until 22 September.
