XXIII Paiz Art Biennial, From 13-30 July, 2023
An art biennial to weave a common future

Paiz Foundation presents the XXIII Paiz Art Biennial bebí palabras sumergidas en sueños. From July 13 to 30, more than 130 pieces by 30 artists and collectives from Guatemala, Argentina, Guadeloupe (France), Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, the United States, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Panama are exhibited.

The Biennial exhibits in five venues:

Guatemala City: Cultural Center of Spain (CCE), Álvaro Arzú Irigoyen Municipal Cultural Center and Portal Gallery.
Antigua Guatemala: Spanish Cooperation Training Center (CFCE) and La Nueva Fábrica.

To define the title of the project, the curatorial team, composed of Francine Birbragher-Rozencwaig and Juan Canela, was inspired by a fragment of the poem Nací mujer, by the Guatemalan writer Maya Cú. Since March 30, the Biennial has been accompanied by Saberes compartidas; an educational program curated by Esperanza de León, designed to bring closer to the public its themes from less to more complexity,

This edition is distinguished by a joint framework in which the themes, ideas, participants and structure were part of a collective process with a Curatorial Assembly which consisted of participating artists such as Minia Biabiany (Guadalupe); Marilyn Boror Bor (Guatemala); Duen Neka’hen Sacchi (Argentina); and Juana Valdés (Cuba-United States). In addition, the work of five pioneering women artists stands out, who have paved the way and become the inspiration, anchor and starting point of the Biennial: Margarita Azurdia, Ana Mendieta, Fina Miralles, María Thereza Negreiros and Cecilia Vicuña.
