exercises by demonstration [an intermediate substance] the geometry of powder, is a project by Colombian artist Nicolás Paris in collaboration with Del Río bakery. As a follow-up of his research on manual labor, Paris worked in one of the most traditional bakeries in Guadalajara to learn how to make bolillo and birote. The exhibition can be understood as a log from his days as a baker apprentice.
Thinking the space as a work table, the artist recomposes small gestures and tricks that he adopted from his fellow bakers: new forms of counting, invented tools whose functionality exceeds their precariousness, and choreographic routines to learn the rhythm of production. Paris registers these small conquests of labor through different drawing exercises.
The result is an installation that includes flour and marble geometries, a garden to see the powder grow, shrouds that record the longevity of the sourdough, and views of the microorganisms that complete the work of the baker.
