MARIELA VANESSA AWARD
For Emerging Women Writers from Latin America 2025.
In honor of Mariela Vanessa Díaz Valverde, beloved student of the College of Hispanic Letters at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of UNAM, who disappeared on April 27, 2018, while on her way from home to university, and whom we continue to search for alive. Estudio Magnolia and Cooperativa Editorial Heredad announce this award with the intention of supporting the development of a new generation of women writers from Latin America.
Who can participate?
Authors at the beginning of their literary careers, preferably born from 1990 onwards.
How to participate?
By submitting an unpublished book project in Spanish, with a minimum length of 60 pages and a maximum of 80 pages.
Genres:
Poetry, essay, chronicle, short story, novel, graphic novel (one-color printing).
Prize:
Exclusive mentorship through Estudio Magnolia’s program, supporting the writing and creation of the book for 6 months.
Exclusive mentorship with a prestigious female writer, tailored to the winner’s profile and work.
A unique grant for research and writing of $18,960 MXN.
Publication of the work in co-edition by Estudio Magnolia and Editorial Heredad.
Promotion of the work in reading circles, presentations, and events.
Six months of access to Escribir es un lugar.
Themes:
Care for life, women’s movements, and social justice.
Schedule:
Submission of projects: until May 31, 2025
Shortlisting: June 16, 2025
Jury deliberation: July 18, 2025
Announcement of results: July 21, 2025
