Installed across the Oklahoma City campus of Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, La casa que nos inventamos: Contemporary Art From Guadalajara allows visitors to experience and learn from one of the most vibrant hubs of contemporary art in the Americas: Guadalajara. Through nearly 50 works—outdoor installations, murals, paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics and sculptures—by 19 emerging and mid-career artists, the exhibition transforms the arts center inside and out. Guest curated by Viviana Kuri, director and chief curator of the Museo de Arte Zapopan (MAZ), this exhibition responds to place: to the rich and complicated history, present and future of Guadalajara and creative communities near and far. Reflecting a dynamic art scene in Mexico, La casa provides a moment to question what makes a cultural hub (like the one expanding in Oklahoma City) distinctive, resilient and enduring. For anyone who has ever wondered how an arts scene grows from tender seeds to a thriving ecosystem, La casa que nos inventamos is a must-see.
On view through Jan. 9. Admission is always free.
