Discover collections from 170 galleries, 90 cities, and 36 countries at EXPO CHICAGO.

April 13–16, 2023
Navy Pier’s Festival Hall

EXPO CHICAGO returns to Navy Pier’s Festival Hall this April 13–16 for its tenth anniversary edition, featuring collections from 170 of the world’s most prominent galleries, spanning 90 cities and 36 countries. Celebrating the work of over 3,000 artists, the International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art presents dynamic programming with art world leaders, site-specific works, and a week of curated city-wide events during EXPO ART WEEK, April 10—16.

Amid the global showing at EXPO CHICAGO, the 2023 exposition weaves together distinct gallery sections including EXPOSURE; curated by Aimé Iglesias Lukin, Director and Chief Curator of Visual Arts at Americas Society in New York. Centered around solo and two-artist presentations by galleries ten years and younger, this year’s EXPOSURE assembles galleries from: Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Romania, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Zimbabwe.

Alongside presentations from emerging galleries, PROFILE shifts the focus to established international galleries as they highlight single artist installations and honed thematic exhibitions. Within EXPO CHICAGO, PROFILE offers a unique curatorial platform to showcase ambitious projects with the clarity of amplifying a single artist or collective. Gallery sections also include Special Exhibitions; curated booths by non-profit organizations, and Editions + Books; featuring artist books, editions and multiples.

Aligning artists from the vast set of global exhibitors participating in EXPO, IN/SITU envelops Navy Pier’s historic Festival Hall with immersive large-scale sculpture, video and site-specific works. The IN/SITU program will be curated by Claudia Segura, Curator of Exhibitions and Collection, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

Over the course of the fair, /Dialogues opens the conversation with on-site panel discussions. Presented in partnership with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), /Dialogues brings art world leaders together in conversation, while the Northern Trust Exchange Stage offers interactive daily programming.

Stepping out of the fair, EXPO activates Chicago with an immersive city-wide curation of events and programming. Explore Chicago’s sprawling modern and contemporary art scene via EXPO ART WEEK, aligning independent galleries, museums and cultural institutions with EXPO CHICAGO. While traversing the city, don’t miss OVERRIDE | A Billboard Project, which takes over Chicago’s City Digital Network with a breadth of contemporary art from local and international artists, on view throughout April.
