Ultramarino

Hidrante, San Juan, Puerto Rico
March 2, 2018 – April 6, 2018

Hidrante presents its 17th exhibition, Ultramarino, by Esvin Alarcón Lam (Guatemala City, 1988).

Esvin Alarcón Lam’s practice is based on the recontextualization of found materials and the histories to which these points. Starting from a practice that addresses sculpture, installation, painting, video, and performance, Alarcón Lam navigates the interstice of the social, political, cultural, personal, and communitarian life of found matter. He frequently works bricolages with residual materials that operate within a larger, abstract global system.

His practice reminds us that persons are not too distinct from matter since in the same way that materials exist and they entail their fragility, degradation, and certain displacement, we too also move and in the case of returning to the same place, are no longer the same.

Esvin Alarcón Lam lives and works in Guatemala City, GT, and is represented by Henrique Faria Fine Arts, New York & Buenos Aires.

Support for this exhibition is thanks to Henrique Faria Fine Art, New York & Buenos Aires, and Embajada, San Juan.
