Terremoto La Postal: Selected Projects

Terremoto La Postal announces selected projects for the 2020-2021 Program

ABOUT LA POSTAL

Dedicated to promote critical thinking around contemporary art in Latin America, Terremoto launched La Postal in the summer of 2018 as an exhibition program aiming to question the ways in which history is constructed within this fabricated territory. Through this project, we ask of young artists and curators to expand the notion of archives through a curatorial viewpoint, as well as to facilitate the mobility of agents and documents that not only recognize other histories, but also challenge normative exhibition models.

Thus, inspired in the circulation methods of 20th-century mail art, La Postal has produced 6 exhibitions that address different problematics that permeate this territory—with a focus on trans/feminisms, decoloniality and intersectionality. Throughout our four open calls we have received over 500 applications that contribute to this idiosyncratically Latin American need to generare alternative channels of acknowledging what we call history.

A NEW LA POSTAL

In September of 2020, we launched a special edition of the program as a provocative rethinking of its mission to maintain an active dialogue, in face of a hitherto unknown panorama spurred by present circumstances. Considering current restrictions in mobility and travel, as well as the crisis affecting the contemporary art scene worldwide, this international open call sought to reconsider the utopian possibilities offered by mail art as an agent of, and multidirectional response to, artistic circulation. In a moment when the body is held still, we endeavor to create new modes of contact.

RESULTS of the 2020 – 2021 PROGRAM

After a thorough review of the submitted projects, we are excited to share with you the results of the fourth open call for Terremoto La Postal, for the winter 2020 and spring 2021 periods. The selected projects are:

Anticomunismo Show
By Centro de Estudios de Arte Anticomunista

Bajo los efectos del poder
By Yenny Hernández

&

Reconstrucción
By Rodrigo Arenas-Carter

We would like to thank all of the participants, as well as Baby Solís (Founder and Director of Obras de Arte Comentadas) and Mauricio Marcin (Curator-in-Chief of Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil), invited jurors for this edition. Soon we’ll be sharing more information on the opening of these exhibition projects.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Fondation Antoine de Galbert for making this edition of Terremoto La Postal possible!
