Our existence is immersed in cycles of endless symbiotic exchanges; geopoetics: vital languages that contain a palimpsest that records the traces of multiple inhabitants in reciprocity and correspondence. In spite of this, we are conditioned to a decaying world that makes its way through compulsive separation: space/time, body/mind/soul, past/present/future, human/nature, civilization/barbarism, North/South, I/others: modern-colonial logic that has hijacked and conditioned the possibility of the Other, in order to maintain a system of division, extraction, and exploitation. What sensible paths will allow an ethics to achieve a world where many worlds fit?
We want to spark deep conversations about being together and being different in the context of South-South exchanges between previously colonized countries. In collaboration with the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, we’ll talk about artistic practices and sex/gender-based dissidence in Southeast Asia and Latin America.
In the frame of our 19th issue, Planetary Solidarity, join our editor, Diego del Valle Ríos, as he starts a conversation with:
Nadya Wang (Singapur) – is Editor at Art & Market, or A&M, which takes an incisive look at the business of art, with particular focus on Southeast Asian art. She is also lecturer-in-charge of Cultural and Contextual Studies in Fashion and Creative Industries and Opportunities for the BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles and BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries programmes in the School of Fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore.
Chatvichai Promadhattavedi (Vietnam) – He was the director of the Bhirasri Institute of Modern Art between 1976 to 1988, during which he oversaw the activities of someone hundred exhibitions and as well a program of contemporary theatre and music. He is a founding member of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, and has been on the Board of the Bangkok Opera.In 2002 Chatvichai mobilized the setting up of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), Ministry of Culture. He was a key figure in the building of the Bangkok Art and Culture (BACC), and became its first Director. He spearheaded the Artists Network in the work of putting in the cultural content in Thailand’s recently promulgated Constitution.
Eduardo Carrera (Ecuador) – Curator and cultural manager. He currently serves as the Coordinator (E) of the Center for Contemporary Art in Quito. He has a degree in Visual Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador and a Masters in Cultural Management from the International University of Catalonia. He completed the Independent Studies Program at MACBA, Barcelona – PEI 2019-2020. He is an alumnus of Independent Curators International (2013).
