A few days before the end of the exhibition Pulso by Tania Candiani and joining the inertia of the Mexico City Art Week, we have organized together with ZONA MACO a guided tour with the Mexican artist where you can hear firsthand the whole process of elaboration of the exhibition proposal.

The exhibition, curated by Jessica Berlanga Taylor, includes 180 teponaztli drums and drumsticks made for the performance, a huipil dyed with natural pigments, a selection of maps of the Mexico Basin from Memoria de las obras del sistema de drenaje profundo del Distrito Federal Volume IV, archival material of the artist, and pre-Hispanic objects from the Central Altiplano on loan from the INAH/National Museum of Anthropology: natural snails found in the Basin of Mexico; a teponaztli drum in the shape of an animal; Mexica basalt sculpture in the shape of a snail, a monumental snail-shaped battlement and the figure of a female deity.

Pulso questions us on how to bring these characteristics of the teponaztli as a resonance box to the contemporary, expanding its meanings and abstracting its uses and the understanding of gender in ancient cultures. It was thus that the proposal was consolidated so that 195 women distributed in 12 groups each played a teponaztli, and 12 women leaders of each group, marking the guidelines of an ancestral rhythm with a Tarahumara drum, as a warning and presence beats.

You can enjoy the exhibition until Sunday, February 13, 2022.
