From 26 February to 1 March, Madrid will once again become the epicentre of the contemporary art scene with the celebration of the 39th ARCOmadrid. A total of 209 galleries from 30 countries will participate in this event. This includes the General Programme, which is the main focus, and an additional 44 galleries who will be represented in the curated sections.

It is Only a Matter of Time is the special feature for this fair: it is curated by Alejandro Cesarco and Mason Leaver-Yap and comprises 16 artists from 13 galleries.

Diálogos, featuring 10 galleries selected by Agustín Pérez Rubio and Lucía Sanromán, will offer an analysis of contemporary creation focused on the dialogue between two creators, paying special attention to women’s art as practised in Latin America, and the similarities between the work of artists from different generations. And the Opening programme, will once again be the space for discovering new work at ARCOmadrid. The 21 galleries selected by Tiago de Abreu Pinto and Övül Ö. Durmusoglu, will represent the commitment from young international galleries.

Latin America will once again be one of the main international participants at the Fair. With international participation constituting 67%, of which 22% is taken up by artists from the American continent, especially from Brazil –Anita Schwartz, Baró, Casa Trîangulo, Luisa Strina, Vermelho, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Jaqueline Martins, Sé and Superfície– and Argentina –Herlitzka+Faria, Rolf Art, Ruth Benzacar, Walden, Floating Island, Nora Fisch, Pasto and Piedras–, ARCOmadrid is again positioned as a meeting and exchange point between Europe and Latin America.

The fair will also see the presence of galleries from Peru, 80M2 Livia BenavidesCrisis and Revolver; Chile, Aninat GalleryPatricia Ready and Die Ecke; Colombia, Casas RiegnerNueveochenta and Instituto de Visión; Puerto Rico, Embajada; Guatemala, Proyectos Ultravioleta; Uruguay, Galería de las Misiones; Cuba, El Apartamento; and Mexico, Arróniz.

A significant number of galleries will participate with programmes focused on presenting one or two artists, reinforcing ARCOmadrid as a space for gaining an understanding of the work by creators such as Laura Lima and Marcius Galan -Luisa Strina-, Hudinilson Jr.  -Jaqueline Martins- ; Nohemí Pérez and Óscar Murillo -Instituto De Visión- ; and Lucas Simões and Estefanía Landesmann  -Pasto- , among others.

Artist’s projects will also be of interest at this fair, among which there will be works by the Spanish-Brazilian artist Sara Ramo and the Chilean creators Alfredo Jaar and Voluspa Jarpa.

The Latin American presence will also be notable both in the talks at the Artists’ Forum, moderated by Ana Longoni and Lia Colombino, and in the Collectors’ Forum on the New Santiago Museum (NUMU), in which Christian Viveros-Fauné will lead a conversation with Chilean collector Claudio Engel, one of the winners of this year’s “A” Prizes for Collecting awarded by the ARCO Foundation.

The 13th illy SustainArt Prize will also be awarded at ARCOmadrid, which recognizes the work of those Latin American artists born after 1970 and from coffee producing countries whose works are exhibited at the Fair.

On another front, ArtsLibris, the International Artist Book and Contemporary Publisher, will participate for the fifth year in ARCOmadrid to spread the word on contemporary publishing in art books. It is a meeting space and a platform that works to present exhibitors on the international circuit, expand the publishing market and share areas of interest with related sectors. On this occasion 42 international exhibitors are participating, among which are 55SP and Livraria Madalena from Brazil; Alias Editorial, from Mexico; Instantes GráficosProyecto Ronda and Arquitectura y Fantasía from Argentina; and FIFV – Rodrigo Gómez from Chile.
