On February 9, 2020, for the presentation of Pazmaker #15, an annual fanzine of the production office Red Social promoted by Adriana Lara (formerly Perros Negros), a performance of Los Cogelones was presented, a rock band from Cd. Neza with a multidisciplinary work that defines itself as “Experimental Mexica Rock” in Ruta de la Amistad [Route of Friendship], Mexico City. After the presentation of the 15th edition of the fanzine in which Marcogelón participates, Los Cogelones were invited to intervene the Torre de los Vientos [Tower of the Winds], a well-known public sculpture of the Ruta de la Amistad made by the Uruguayan artist Gonzalo Fonseca for the 1968 Olympics.

With both a poetic and political language that fights for the preservation of indigenous customs and the empowerment of an identity that has been invisible for centuries in this country, Los Cogelones performed with dancer Dalia Xiuhcoatll and ten of her war band students in the middle of the southern outskirts of Mexico City to give a free concert and offer their work.

The video presented on June 29th of the same year, as a document of this memorable event, was aligned with the release of Mexica, a song that is part of their new production Hijos del Sol. The new album of Los Cogelones will be presented in its entirety on July 6 by Piccolo Records, along with the complete video of the concert from the redsocial.live website.

Mexica is the song with which we began to play with indigenous sounds, it is the song with which we made the determination to unite the Mexica with rock, when we listen to the encouraging words that are heard at the end of a dance, within a temazcal or simply when everything is silent and the inner voice begins to come out—that is when Mexica is born, when the child who was lost finds the path that will take him home”. —Los Cogelones

RED SOCIAL / RUTA DE LA AMISTAD is a project that began in early 2020, during the context of the Material Art Fair, at a time when the interest in our city is very internationally, but just one month before the health crisis of Covid-19 begins and interrupts any kind of massive event and mobility between countries. Showing this project today, four months later, proposes a reflection on what has triggered such a crisis at a social level, regarding what it is like to connect physically in one place and share an artistic creation in community.

We live in a moment where information, tools and connectivity are available to everyone. Specifically, Red Social is a response to the growing interconnection of the artistic practices that have emerged from this digital era, which allows us to dialogue between artists and public, other disciplines and the different movements in history that have formed them. Red Social seeks to raise awareness of the media phenomenon and its consequences in the social field, through these physical meetings, where a transdisciplinarity* is achieved, putting into practice different disciplines that give feedback to each other, through a central intention that leads to a new result.*

This event was supported by Ruta de la Amistad, Pasagüeroonda.mx, Material Art Fair, and Aire Libre.
