A celebration of Mexico’s contemporary art community, each edition of Estación Material takes place in a different city, highlighting Mexico’s most fascinating contemporary local scenes.

The inaugural fair in Guadalajara presents 33 exhibitors from across Mexico and works from over 125 artists. This includes the debut of Proyectos, Material’s first major initiative with its new Main Partner, Del Castillo y Castro Abogados. From a pool of 80 applicants, 10 exceptional projects were selected for the first generation of this innovative, two-year program to support the future of contemporary art in Mexico.

Rodrigo Feliz, Material’s director of exhibitors, remarks, “Estación Material is like a big family gathering. It’s an opportunity for Mexico’s gallerists, artists, collectors, curators and other arts professionals to really get to know each other better. And for our guests from elsewhere, there’s no place better to discover what’s happening now in contemporary art in Mexico.”

Estación Material features diverse parallel programming throughout the week, activating different spaces across the city, including galleries, museums and artist studios, in collaboration with local cultural partners, including PAOS GDL, O.Y.E., AYER, and Doña Pancha Fest. Lead sponsor, Volcán de mi Tierra tequila, will also present an augmented reality exhibition of work by Guadalajara-based artist Ricardo Luévanos at the fair’s official hotel, Casa Habita.

The fair’s private opening is Thursday, October 28th from 12 to 7 PM, which is by invitation only. Estación Material opens to the public on Friday, October 29th and runs through Sunday, October 31st, between the hours of 12 and 7 PM. Daily admission is $200 pesos, with discounted rates available for students and teachers. Children under 12 may enter for free when accompanied by an adult. In order to guarantee admission, organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance at estacion1.boletopolis.com.

The organizers would like to give special thanks to Material’s Main Partner, Del Castillo y Castro Abogados, for their invaluable support; lead partners Volcán de Mi Tierra, Cerámica Suro and the Guadalajara Convention & Visitors Bureau; and official partners Casa Habita, Aeroméxico, Andamios Ultra Ecológicos, Perrier, Scielo MX, Bohemia Cristal, Merkki, Margules, Verde Urbano, and Drea Producciones.
