Galería Nueva is a project that hosts, in its two spaces in Madrid, galleries and art projects from all over the world for periods ranging from one week to two months. At 10 Doctor Fourquet (Lavapies) and San Agustin 14 (Las Letras) are temporarily exhibiting the work of their artists those galleries that want to have contact with the art market in Madrid without the need to settle down in the capital for a long term. In the last few months, some of them have exhibited in Galería Nueva, like the Mexican Galería Galería Galería, the Chilean Isabel Croxatto, the Majorcan Maior, the Valencian SET Espai d’Art or the Italian Prometeo Gallery, and soon they will have in their spaces the German Ulf Larsson or the Rodriguez Gallery from Poland.
The curatorial team made up by Chile’s Victor Lopez Zumelzu and Spaniards Violeta Janeiro, Adonay Bermudez and Mar Laguna advise the galleries in the organization of their exhibitions at Galeria Nueva. The exhibitions hosted by Galería Nueva present the work of artists of all kinds: the conceptual art of Isidoro Valcárcel-Medina, Mario García Torres, Sara Ramo or Andy Medina, the video of Wendy Cabrera or Regina José Galindo, the painting of Coco González Lohse, Heinz Mack and Guillermo García Cruz or the urban art of French Eltono and Alexis Mata, artists whose work has been presented in Madrid by galleries from Mexico, Chile, Italy, Brazil, Germany or Spain. The selection of the projects is in charge of a group of art professionals among which there are collectors, curators and artists who value the quality of the projects that will complete the calendar of Galería Nueva.
In this particular Airbnb for galleries, there is also room for people. The person in charge of the gallery can stay at Las Letras, which has a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom adjacent to the exhibition space in order to be able to attend to the visitors of the exhibition with all the comforts. Artists who are going to exhibit can also use an accommodation and a studio in Arturo Soria to pre-produce their work for as long as necessary.
As ambassadors of the visiting gallery in Madrid, the Galería Nueva team is also in charge of opening and closing the galleries every day, summoning the press, visitors and collectors to the inauguration, organizing events and catering, preparing the room sheet, the exhibition graphics, the logos of the visiting galleries at the entrances to the spaces… In short, facilitating the logistics and production of the visiting gallery in a city that is new to them.
