LA ESCUELA___ invites artists, researchers and educators to be part of the community of our platform for radical learning and collective creation. To this end, we present an open-call for the development of online LABORATORIES and texts for our LIBRARY, which address education from experimental methodologies, collaborative projects and social practices in Latin America. This open-call is available to authors in the fields of art, architecture and performing arts from a pedagogical perspective. We are looking for proposals that contribute significantly to our archive of research and creation of educational projects. We wish to receive works on different topics related to the practices and research of the applicants, always conceived from the crossroads between art and education, relating the historical tradition and contemporary Latin American production.

We invite those interested in participating–of any nationality and residence–to submit abstracts of proposals to develop articles and/or projects for online laboratories. Our interest is to bring art and education closer to the social realities of specific places, through themes that address social, political or environmental challenges in different regions of Latin America, offering a place for diverse perspectives of learning and educational models based on the collective.

The open-call is from April 1 to May 31, 2022. We will select 3 laboratory proposals and 10 contributions for the library (in Spanish or English), which will be part of the offer of our second semester, from September to December 2022.

The material received will be reviewed by the LA ESCUELA___ team in collaboration with the academic guests of the next semester. The evaluation criteria will be based on the relevance, pertinence and coherence of the proposal in relation to current social, political and/or environmental issues in Latin America, as well as its link with the legacy of educational experiences led by artists, located in a global framework of exchange and production of knowledge.

LA ESCUELA___ will announce the final selection for the 3 Labs and the 10 articles for the Library the first week of July 2022; individuals will be contacted individually by email. For more details about the open-call visit the requirements and application form at la escuela.art

Around 60 collaborators from 12 countries are participating in the first semester of LA ESCUELA___, including Cecilia Vicuña, Nicolás Paris, Luis Camnitzer, Mónica Mayer, Ricardo Basbaum, Felipe Rivas San Martín, Patricia Domínguez, Andrés Pereira Paz, Adrián Balseca, Laura Uribe, Esvin Alarcón Lam, Laura Anderson Barbata, Mônica Hoff, Renata Cervetto, among others. Our institutional network includes Ciudad Abierta and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso; the MUAC-UNAM – Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo and the Museo Experimental el Eco; the Goethe-Institut Venezuela, the Universidad Simón Bolívar, the Universidad de Los Andes and the Universidad Central de Venezuela, and the Latin American and Caribbean Contemporary Art Web Archive of the Ivy Plus Library Confederation.

LA ESCUELA___ is founded and developed by artist, architect and educator Miguel Braceli together with the international foundation Siemens Stiftung. It is based on the experience of Siemens Stiftung’s co-creation programs and artistic interventions in Latin America, and Miguel Braceli’s artistic and educational work in public space. The objective is to address the issue of how a school can be conceived and configured as an artistic project, beyond institutional boundaries. For this reason, the platform itself functions as a collective work, involving artists and researchers in the creation of its programs.
