Call for Applications Closes October 21! Project Parutz’

Winter Solstice Laboratory: “Work, Creation, and Memory or How Life is Communally Reproduced”
Theoretical-Practical Workshop: An Epistemological Mapping in the Home of the Birds, T’zikin Jay.

The Lake Atitlán basin is a repository of natural, social, and historical wealth. It is here that Project Parutz’ was born, capturing the ancient knowledge of this territory where meaning and form are communally given to the world. For several years, Parutz’ has aimed to systematize and investigate what we eat, plant, and trade, considering these processes as management in the fields, forests, rivers, and markets of this basin. Documentation is a vital aspect of the social-natural process, seeking ways to complexify epistemologies related to festivities and mourning, understanding how this world of emotions interacts with the cyclical nature of harvest time.

In the winter solstice laboratory, we propose to share and analyze these social-natural-historical cycles from the geography where they were created. Under the curatorship of Gladys Tzul Tzul, we have organized a theoretical-practical-experimental program from December 6 to 14, close to the onset of the winter solstice, a significant time for the renewal and rest of the land where food consumed in Maya territories is produced. During this period, we aim to study and analyze these processes as part of this temporal cycle rather than above it.

With this initiative, we seek to distance ourselves from liberal conceptions that create abstract and temporal divisions in the society we live in. Together with a selection of creators, thinkers, and artists from diverse territories, we will establish spaces for dialogue and encounter between individuals from urban areas and indigenous communities. In this sense, despite processes of colonization and extermination, we want this residency to emphasize that life deserves to be celebrated and communally reproduced.

We have extended the application period until October 21. If you want to learn more about the call, please check the following link and their social media:
