The exhibition brings together the appropriations and recreations of a set of drawings that Sergei Eisenstein gave to his friend the painter Gabriel Fernández Ledesma, before the Russian director left Mexico, after the failure of the film project he had come to produce. These drawings, perhaps the only tangible material of Eisenstein’s passage through Mexico, disappeared from the lobby of the Cineteca Nacional in 1982, where they were on permanent display. The reproductions of the drawings are not faithful. They are negative images, false facsimiles, recreations of an apocryphal memory. They are impressions of images at the moment of their destruction. And at the same time, are constructions that seek to give light to those notes that Eisenstein drew spontaneously and carelessly, and that nevertheless contain the richness of an unconscious and perverse dimension, an anti-cinematic dimension. |
