Recently found, the oldest figurative cave painting in the world is a pig painted 45,000 years ago in a cave on an Indonesian island.

Painting has accompanied humanity, it has been a tool of expression throughout all this time. For many people or societies, painting equals art. Although, as countless artistic movements or groups have shown during the last century, from the surrealists, dada, fluxus, arte povera and many more, art cannot be pigeonholed into a single tool, object or action.

Yet artists and the public are still intrigued by the possibilities of painting. The artists exhibited here approach, work and expand the conception, idea and limits of painting.

Stretching, destroying and alchemically transforming what this old art is, so that it accompanies us, walking with us for many more millennia.

A partial and transgenerational view of how painting is conceived today in 2021 through the work of nineteen emerging and other more established, all contemporary artists.

Archivo Colectivo is a gallery in Mexico City that has been presenting the work of recognized and emerging artists from all artistic disciplines, always seeking to generate a dialogue between local and international creations.

Lapla is a project for the organization of traveling art exhibitions. The name comes from its acronym “L’art pour l’art”. It was created in 2020 by Alex Romero, artist and cultural manager and Diego Beyró, artist and co-founder of Casa Equis and FAIN.

Among the artists with a consolidated career we can see the work of Fernanda Brunet, Mario García Torres, Javier Peláez, Robert Janitz, and Christian Jankowski.

Without making a drastic distinction in the group of emerging artists or with a young career are: Lucía Vidales, Alain Urrutia, Jimena Montemayor, Elsa-Louise Manceaux, Josué Mejía and Marek Wolfryd among others.
