The 6th Border Biennial is a collaboration between the El Paso Museum of Art (EPMA) and Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juarez (MACJ) presented simultaneously at EPMA and MACJ from November 20, 2020 through March 28, 2021.
We are excited to announce the curatorial team for the 6th Border Biennial: Kate Green, Ph.D., Senior Curator, EPMA with MACJ staff and curatorial advisors Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Ph.D, art historian and independent curator and Rolando Flores, artist and member of the collective Tercerunquinto. Through artworks by approximately two-dozen emerging and established artists, this iteration of the Border Biennial will address the border and the body; the history, present, and future of the borderlands. The exhibition will be accompanied by public programs at the opening and closing, and an illustrated publication—we hope published with Temblores Publicaciones!—with critical essays and artists’ proposals for future works or interventions on or about the border.
A core component of the 6th Border Biennial is an Open Call, live now through April 15, for artists (or collectives) living and working within 200 miles of the US/Mexico border. Artists submit a CV, images of up to five recent artworks, a statement relating the work to the exhibition’s theme, and a short proposal for an artwork the artist would like to realize on or about the border in the future. The curatorial team will select approximately twenty artists from the Open Call, and work with each to select artworks—perhaps those submitted, perhaps other work, perhaps new work—for the exhibition.
