Hidrante, San Juan, Puerto Rico
June 21, 2019 – July 26, 2019
Hidrante is pleased to present its 23rd exhibition, morder el polvo, with Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Javier Fresneda, and Seth Ferris.
morder el polvo is an exhibition featuring works that mine the sites of past, present, and future of colonialist militarization in Puerto Rico. By focusing on the postmilitary legacies of the Old San Juan forts, the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, the Radio Observatory in Arecibo, and the Vieques bombing range, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Javier Fresneda, and Seth Ferris trace an abridged history of what is left after the end of active military service. How do we make sense or use for these sites as they inevitably turn to dust, and what does their continued presence in the form of place, pollution, and decay mean moving forward?
