MARGINALIA #29

by Javier Barrios
October 1, 2017 – October 31, 2017

Every month Marginalia invites an artist, curator or project to provide a series of images that will serve as the background of Terremoto, in relation to their practice and current interests. At the end of each month, the identity of our guest is revealed and the whole series of images is unveiled.

The Aeropostale t-shirts know the world better in comparison to the most intrepid of the characters of any Julio Verne’s book. I doubt if the clothes I’m wearing traveled in the right ship, but I’m certain it has crossed more borders than me. The ones I’ll wear later now travel the transoceanic or in plane.

Is the trip which names it, it is named after its journey and its origin: maquila that floats in international waters. It is legitimate or not depending on whom or what is facing. Merchandise from some store in the middle of the Central American jungle. Duty-free zone in Belize. The Panama Canal is a transoceanic fracture that names beings and things.

To become fayuca:
Pedestrians become fayuca when walking around without their official ID.

To become fayuca:
Over there, two by two, in an Italika moto scooter, Motoratonxs become pirates when riding.

To become fayuca:
Certainly every pair of old shoes that has been well used ends up hanging on electricity wires.

It is this way.
Fayuca = Good + Origin + Geographical path ÷ Political economy of the present

There was already fayuca since before the arrival of the Spanish in October, we just didn’t call it that way. There is many institutionalized fayuca.
Fayuquerxs ocassionally disident Made in Taiwan that pretend to be Made in Europe Union and don’t open their eyes.

It is just about paying attention. The electoral campaign’s tarpaulins always end up in the fayuca tents. Is the natural rythm of things. There the photographs of the candidates always smiling decolorate, almost always towards reddish shades that integrate to the urban landscape.

The flag is the oldest campaign tarpaulin. Sooner or later it will end up on the roof of an illegal-CDs tent. Finally, it will accomplish its true fuction there: to cover the sun.
