Every month Marginalia invites an artist, curator or project to provide a series of images that will serve as the background of Terremoto, in relation to their practice and current interests. At the end of each month, the whole series of images is unveiled. Here is the selection of June 2019.
1- Place 119 needles in a working position.
Thread the string rolling it around each needle, passing counter-clockwise through the hook on the plates. Start with the hook in the leftmost plate. Form there, pass through the first needle. From there, pass through the hook on the second plate. From there, through the second needle, and so on.
2- Seven woven pillowcases are supported by seven wooden structures, composing an organism.
The body is the structure. The pillow cases are units. Together, they make up a black hole.
They combine with each other, till infinity, like the letters of a cosmic alphabet. The very faces of the fabric allow the construction of a coded language: back – profile – profile – profile – profile – profile – back – profile – profile – profile – profile – front – profile – profile – profile – profile – back – profile – profile – profile – back – profile – profile – profile – profile – front – profile – profile – profile – back.
3- Six eggs move around on a table to the rhythm of the metronome.
The choreography was written for six people. Only one character is on the scene and must represent the movements of all of them: 36 changes in 6 laps. The character is shaped by the woven suit he is wearing. On the back the genetic code of the movements that it must represent is inserted: turn around the oval table in a counter-clockwise direction, carrying the eggs with the mouth to move them from one place to another, trying to maintain the rhythm that the metronome indicates.
4- Two people are four triangles.
Each triangle is composed of three different elements: color, size and sound. Its three characteristics guide the movement, generating a constant and unrepeatable trajectory. When they collide, they shout and change their direction.
The choreography is a dialogue between a pair, different each time, in a squash court.
They are not in a space, for they are the space themselves.
