We invited the studio Intelligent Mischief to translate part of their ‘propaganda for the world we want’ to share with our readers in Spanish, a very special issue of Marginalia for times of colonized sensitivity.
Intelligent Mischief is a multi-disciplinary creative studio unleashing Black imagination to shape the future. Our work employs collaborative world building to craft multi-sensory story worlds immersing audiences in utopian futures in which Black people occupy an archipelago of liberated zones, where we are thriving, sovereign, and free. We bring groups of Black people together to imagine and conceive of a future based on love, care, community and sanctuary and translate these ideas to experiences, installations, art works and stories that catalyze bold alternatives and subvert the status quo.
We are influenced by Afrofuturist artists like Sun Ra, Drexciya and Parliament Funkadelic, as well as the spheres of experience design, and civic media, using rich, vibrant, colors, textures, sounds and scents to create spaces, artifacts, rituals, and written works that make liberation feel possible, even inevitable. Inspired by Robin D.G. Kelley’s Freedom Dreams we invite Black people to engage in the practice of poetic futuring either through co-creating worlds or simply by experiencing them.
Propaganda for the World We Desire was Marginalia #101, commissioned and translated for Terremoto with the clear intention of expanding the reach of IM’s propagandistic work.
