If an exhibition starts with a diagonal line, where is the horizon? In Matalon’s work, there is a tension between the inside and outside of a line. Peña Salinas questions how artifacts are continuously flowing between space and time. Hopson presents site-specific sculptures that confront the function, form and site of an object with its own melancholy. In Kläs’s work we move deeper into a space that is already taken.

Imagine using a diagonal as the visual description of empathy. It describes a forward motion and engages the space in-between. In a similar way, empathy is a projection and implies a somatic involvement in the experience of inhabiting the other, which transforms the perception of reality.
