"HUGE IS THE WORLD I STILL HOLD ON ME". Solo show by Igi Lola Ayedun at HOA - Brazil

São Paulo, Brazil
August 19, 2021 – September 12, 2021

HUGE IS THE WORLD I STILL HOLD ON ME has as its central effigy the spectrum of vision between the imagery and the tangible. In a presentation that brings together various forms of expression, the artist focuses on schemes, anagrams and visual cognition systems that dissect perceptions about the figure, the environment and lucid dreams that integrate the exercise of searching for radical memory and the mutation of senses through gesture action. Spirituality, genealogy, motherhood, virtuality and ocular anatomy are the main drivers of a research that finds the essence of its materialization in the multidimensional blue.

Igi Lola Ayedun (B.1990, São Paulo – Brazil) is a multimedia self-taught artist who works with painting, video, 3D digital sculpture, photography and sound. Her work is guided by the cultural and biological potential of colors, in particular the color blue is taking centre stage of her current research as she explores the global routes of indigo, the lapis lazuli historical legacy and power of minerals in order to rebuild life-cycles through the artistic materiality itself and her dream’s emotional-visual descriptions. Her work has shown at Pinacoteca de São Paulo, São Paulo (2021), Christie´s Rockefeller Plaza, New York (2021), Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo (2020), ETOPIA Centro de Arte y Tecnologia, Zaragoza (2019), Galeria Baró, São Paulo (2019), Espaço Breu (2018), Konvent 0, Barcelona (2018), SP-Arte Performance Section (2018), Teatro Oficina, São Paulo (2017) and Oficina Oswald de Andrade, São Paulo (2009). Ayedun believes that the juxtaposition of ancient and contemporary technologies is a spiritual way to preserve African ancestralism to the future.
