El sentido de las cosas

SGR is currently exhibiting Manuel Hernandez Ruiz’s work in its Exhibition Space. With this series of drawings and water-colors, the artist presents us with pieces that portray brutal simplicity and honesty in form and content; a body of work that transcends conceptual speculation to exist instead in the field of the innate and the primal. Secret underground gardens where the limits between plant and animal seem more diffuse than ever, convoluted webs of brain/bulbs calling us back to our origin. Pure matter.

Hernandez Ruiz’s intricate drawings are a testament to the roles that labor and obsession can play in art practice. His disciplined repetitions in gesture and subject open a window into the significant resistance that art making may embody in times of endless, spectacular newness.

Era de oro

In our Project Room, a series of silk-screen prints by the ABCDM collective is currently on display. The series titled Era de Oro (Golden Era); is a reflection about the cultural and ideological value that has been engrained into gold by western culture.

Gold’s malleability is not only a matter of its chemical properties, but also of its cultural history; its entanglement with the political, social and economic development of western civilization. By using the overlapping of images allowed by the technique of silk-screen printing, ABCDM tries to make visible the confrontation of cultures, the empowerment, the fetishizing, and the ruin of modernity that this mineral represents.

ABCDM collective is composed by Ana Rivera, Boris Restrepo, Carlos Velásquez, Darcy Cabrera and Miguel Cárdenas.
