Through this section, monthly, we invite agents of the artistic system to share a selection of images related to their practice or current interests. Images are published daily in the header of our website and shared through our Instagram profile. At the end of the month, the complete selection of images is published together with a text that contextualizes them. Here is the selection of May 2021.
Since 2019, diSONARE has been working on an epistolary project between the group of artists in RIZOMA and the women imprisoned in the Santiaguito de Almoloya prison in the State of Mexico, to create a publication that brings together images, drawings, texts, poems, and letters written during the pandemic. RIZOMA is a project that began when Lucía Hinojosa, Anne Waldman, and Adriana Camacho thought of collaborating with women in the prison through performance, poetry, and musical improvisation based on experimentation.
Since March 2020, RIZOMA has not been able to carry out face-to-face workshops at the Prison. In the wake of COVID-19, we started a mail art project that will be part of the publication.
RIZOMA is a poetic apparatus dedicated to Mexican women deprived of their freedom. RIZOMA is generated in unexpected moments when a space of trust, listening, co-creation, discharge, and radical care is created between the participating artists and the women of the prison. Our instruments are free and collective improvisation to share, denounce, open, and possibly heal, even momentarily, the ravages of injustice and violence that permeate the Mexican prison system.
The texts of the women of the prison are a call to action before the patriarchy and the bad government, illustrating the condition of being imprisoned, the pain caused by the unjust deprivation of liberty, talking about the abuse that exists within the prisons of the system prison and the abuses that allow the unjust deprivation of liberty, denouncing the functioning of the links of the justice system in Mexico.
One of RIZOMA’s central objectives is to offer an open space for expression through the written word and collaborative performance. The women from the prison who have been part of the workshops are María Luisa, Melissa, Berenice, Lucy, Silvia, Marisol, Ana, Norma, Cecilia, Itzel, Judith, Vianey, Azucena, Norma, Verónica, Mercedes, Eloísa, Cinthya, Iraís, Juana, Rocío, among others. [1] The artists, musicians and writers who have been part of these workshops are Adriana Camacho, Anne Waldman, Lucía Hinojosa, Carolina Fusilier, Emma Gomis, Alejandra Monroy, Diego Gerard, Nadine Faraj, Guro Moe, Zazil Collins, David Rojas Azules, No Land , Luna Montenegro, Adrian Fisher, Devin Brahja Waldman, Ambrose Adiós and Lucía Meliá Maestro.
