marco lópez valenzuela

he lives and works in morelia, michoacán. his practice explores power relations and the way in which power is exercised. in that sense, he moves in two directions: he explores the violence generated by organized crime in michoacán, and questions the way in which painting–as a discipline–has been and is understood as such. he was editor and reporter for la jornada michoacán, and his work has been selected in-state meetings and is part of national and international collections. in 2020 he received an honorable mention in the alfredo zalce painting and print biennial, and served as curatorial assistant for the XIV FEMSA Biennial. he currently co-directs aberrante, an independent space in morelia, through which the Laboratorio de Enfrentamientos Utópicos is currently being worked on.
