She is a professor and researcher at the University of Texas at Austin where she teaches performance, visual culture, popular culture, and queer theory in the Latinx and Latin American context. She is the author of Performing Mexicanidad: Vendidas y Cabareteras on the Transnational Stage and is finishing a book on modes of queer intimacy in performance and visual arts and another on rumberas cinema.
