Lara Sousa

She is a Mozambican filmmaker, storyteller and visual artist who works with the narratives of a country that has not yet reconciled with its past and present identity. She studied film at EICTV (Cuba). Her work focuses on the non-places where these individual narratives exist, creating an imaginary space between past, present and future, where subjective desires can emerge, as a poetic act of not letting subjective experiences die. She is currently developing, among other projects, the documentary The Ship and the Sea, which was selected for the Berlinale DocStation and won the Idfa Bertha Fund Award at the Durban Film Market 2020. The project was funded by the Sundance Documentary Programme. Sousa works as a training coordinator for the MiradasDoc Market andDocumentary Festival in Tenerife – Spain.
