Julieth Morales

JULIETH MORALES (Cauca, 1992) She studies plastic arts at the Universidad del Cauca. Her processes stem from her experience of the inter- section of gender and ethnicity, as a Misak indige- nous woman. She investigates notions of identity and carries out a process of self-knowledge through performance, video, photography, pain- ting and drawing. She also reformulates traditional rites of her community in a critical way, with the body as a denouncing medium. Her work repre- sents the exploration of a hybrid existence, of her identity as a Misak woman in a context of wester- nization. As an artist, Morales seeks to reclaim her own existence as an indigenous woman who challenges, or rather, rethinks tradition.
