Javi Vargas Sotomayor is an interdisciplinary artist, independent researcher and teacher. Since 1999 he has participated in several exhibitions, seminars and art interventions in Peru, Argentina, Paraguay, Panama and Spain. He teaches visual arts, painting and contemporary art.
In his projects he seeks to connect diverse experiences, interests and fields of knowledge apparently disconnected: archaeo-astronomy, topography, transfeminism, queer animality, Andean mythology, history and ecology. He transits and explores between different media such as photography, engraving, digital graphics, performance, drawing, short film, music, sound and poetry.
He graduated with a degree in Painting from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and from 2015-2020 he taught visual arts at the Escuela Nacional Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú.
